I am drawn to these transparent things, because light travels through them. They invite us to open our perception, to flow together, and, through an acceptance of change, to embrace difference. They once emerged from people’s distant imaginings of the stars as something that transcends the human self: the pavilion, the Azure Dragon constellation, the flying bird, and the Pole Star, all meeting one another imperceptibly within an open field of perception. In a form of contemplative seeing that suspends preconceptions, drifting between a long history and the ever-changing present of each passing second, where have we arrived, and what kinds of contact will we enter into with latent worlds and futures? Should you be willing to try, a water-like state and temperament will begin to extend and endure: a yin-like softness of freedom and becoming. It is a power that offers itself to its surroundings without easily wounding life, like sunlight and wind. We and it will continue to shape one another, floating and drifting, light and playful.

While examining the origins of images and diagrams in order to understand the relationship between my recurring symbols and my intuitive attractions, I encountered the symbol of the North Star in ancient civilizations, which in turn led me to the dragon as an astral configuration. A passionate curiosity toward the fixed stars, together with an openness to strangeness and unfamiliarity, allowed me to enter into a quiet conspiracy with my ancestors.

Outdoor Installation

This is a passageway into an inner space. Suspended from the great tree in my childhood paradise, the tree that watched me grow up, it becomes a form of return for me, as well as the home’s renewed acceptance of a child. The creatures within it come from my guardian spirit, and their gazes will generate communication. The patterns inside the rings resemble ancient rock paintings left by ancestors in caves, corresponding to the different chapters of Flow|浮游 ( 2021-2022 ). This state of openness is why I chose the pavilion: here, creatures, architecture, and the environment encounter one another freely. The inspiration for the interlocking structure comes from ancient bronzes, allowing its complete form to be visible from every angle, and it is ultimately assembled through a mortise-and-tenon system. When these connections are organized together, they form a passage through which people move from the experience of here toward elsewhere. Wind, light, and rain will each bring about different states; this is a process of constant transformation.
