Crystalline Layer

As an ongoing long-term project, Crystalline Layer | 结晶层 borrows the imaginative resonance of a geological term to articulate my understanding of myself, of living beings, and of the environment. It seeks to respond to the “mother tongue of the Earth” — a cosmic language that links ancient environments with possible futures. As I move across the Eurasian plate, tracing the rising and subsiding of rock strata and the mutual gazing, listening, touching, and depicting among forms of life, birds lead me to learn the language of water and to grow familiar with the words of mountains.

Ultimately, the project constructs a topography space of imagination: from multisensory narratives unfolding through film, sculpture, sound, installation, and printmaking, to material eco-landscapes woven from ceramics, metal, minerals, and naturally gathered matter. Among the fluid miracles it captures, it extends an invitation to wander and dwell together with other forms of life. At the same time, it leads us to reflect: once we ourselves have become part of the geological strata, what traces will we leave behind? When future beings peer back into the past, will they be able to discern the gentle entanglements that once existed between formal species?

Mountains rose from continents, veins of the land were sculpted by water, mist seeped into stones, clouds reveal the terrains, snowfields divulge trails, and the bodies of organisms would someday grow into minerals…

Birds circle through the space, creating a sense of fluidity and ultimately converging within the imagery. They stretch space and time from the immediate present into the interwoven, more distant dimensions within the video, and gently arriving by our side.
