Artist Statement
这几乎就等同于我存在于世的意义。 “结晶层”便是践行这一意义的实践。我无法抵挡将身躯抛入这颗美丽行星的冲动。一同参与到由深邃时间所构造并变换的地貌之中的冲动。就像我在影片和日记中写道：“ 在我真正来到⼀座雪⼭之前，我已被充满了晶莹剔透的梦境和幻象⻓久地包围。好像我已经切切身身地来到了那⾥，即使我还从未去过。”
所以作为持续进行的长期项目，“结晶层”借用了一种对地质学词语的想象，描述着我对自身及生物和环境的理解。它旨在探索源自宇宙间的，组建了地球万物生灵的元素和物质构架之中的流动与平衡——作为生物与环境间的缠绵，和绵延于物质间的生命性，以及其中所包含的变幻、多样性和希望的视角。当我追随着岩层的升起与凹陷，以及⽣命间彼此的凝视、倾听、触碰与描绘时。飞鸟引领着我，去通晓⽔的语⾔，熟悉⼭的话语。结晶出现在每⼀处地⽅，并作为万事万物的构成与转化。
是的，我想向你们讲述许多故事，这些故事连绵不绝。因为它将贯穿于我作为人类这一物种而存在的全部时间。当我成为了云、飞鸟、尘砾或其它生命的时候，也许我会用新习得的语言来诉说。
All Those Convergences That Rise and Settle正是对两年多来横跨了欧亚大陆之间行迹的一次凝结。当我的身体与心灵都置身于这些风景中时，对地球母语的认知和交流，都化为了天然而自发的吟唱和舞蹈。而每当我抚摸着这些不同色泽和种类的岩石时，岩层间的故事便如同此刻漫山遍野铺陈而开的繁荣生命，在我的眼前徐徐展开。我总是不免回忆起童年的时候，当我第一次见到始祖鸟的化石时，它在我的记忆中所留下的深刻印象。我不会料到，在之后的岁月里，海鸥将环绕着孤身坐在崖岸边的我乘风飞翔；一只鹦鹉将会为我舔舐从脸颊上滚落的泪珠；为冬日的枯树带来生机的麻雀们也在我的心中根植出了对雪原的全新理解——一种使希望和安⼼的勇⽓重新在这⽚失落的⼟地中升起的喜悦 ……我也许想说，自己有时好像真的很像那些敏锐觉知着、追随着季风、洋流与气候变换，在作为整体的地球之中从海底穿梭至峰尖的鸟类。 并且，在我幸福栖居的那些梦境里，是所有关于⻜⾏的梦境。这些作为我与飞鸟之间的缘分，让我开始用凝固了星象图般的矿石，去组合我的翅膀。作为从恐龙延续下来的古老生物，我渴望加入他们成为这些记忆桥梁的一环。影片成为了可以在观望和幻想中无数次前往的永远的道路。他们将在我看不见的岁月中依旧自由地生生不息。
艺术创作是我记录自身与这些生命和奇迹相遇的途径，同时也是将世界真实存在的奇迹分享给人们的载体。我常常设想：当归于名为人类世的地质层后，我们将留下怎样的痕迹？当后世的生命窥探往昔时，能否看到曾经的物种间存有着温柔的缠绵？和从第五次大灭绝中幸存下来的生命在这里共同生活的我们，在面临可能继续到来的灾变和消亡时，我们能有批判和悲哀之外的回应吗？在这个用软件便可以轻而易举地获得一张看起来不可思议的图像的时代，我们似乎就要忘记在演化基因之中留存的想象之力，以及存在于现实之中的真实奇迹。在这些行走与追随迹象的旅途中，我越发感受到从10的24次方颗恒星间的光芒中诞生的形象，活跃于一种生命的语言中。即使在被人类称为无机物的物质之中，我也能看到生命的繁荣。金属中的生命性使它盛开出鲜花，落入土地的枫叶成为了某种飞鸟。就像枯叶蝶的存在。我相信生物正是通过奇思妙想才成为了如今多样的种类，分布在这颗星球的每一寸角落。这是演化的开始。
最后，我真诚地希望自己继续行走下去。我希望可以带着“结晶层”的后续篇章，真实地参与到保护冰川、物种栖息地和生态多样性的行动中去。感谢Be Still Media提供了这次让我能够回顾并分享的机会。我希望当我们——我与你，以及更广泛的存在——一同在水与岩石、土地与空气、现实与梦境间穿行时，能够更细腻地体悟这份彼此交融并转化的平衡。去体验，去感受，那份同宇宙的奇迹与智慧，不经意间但心领神会地相遇。
Iceylithe Bintong Wang
As an ongoing long-term project, Crystalline Layer borrows the imaginative resonance of a geological term to describe my understanding of myself, of beings, and of the environment. It aims to explore the flow and balance inherent in the elements and material structures—born of the cosmos—that constitute all living beings on Earth: the entanglement of life with its environment, the enduring vitality that stretches among substances, and the perspectives of transformation, diversity, and hope embedded within.
By roaming among the mountains and rivers constructed by time, reading subtle clues and traces left by beings and environments, as well as new images giving birth by consciousness through creative imagination. I strive to understand what they tell me—vague yet enchanting memories and stories written in the mother tongue of the Earth, connecting ancient environments and possible futures.
As I tracing the rise and subsidence of geological layers and the mutual gazing, listening, touching, and depicting among living beings. Birds lead me—to learn the language of water, to grow familiar with the words of mountains. Crystals appear everywhere, serving as the medium of formation and transformation for all things.
Mountains rose from continents, veins of the land were sculpted by water, mist seeped into stones, clouds reveal the terrains, snowfields divulge trails, and the bodies of organisms would someday grow into minerals…
Installation
In each new installation, I attempt to construct a multisensory space that resembles a shifting landscape, one that emerges through an interplay with the local environment. These spaces are imbued with a sense of ‘fluidity,’ where things exist in a shuttle-like state. Within the invitation of such spaces, the audience bears witness to the miracles revealed by the cosmos through countless chance encounters and opportunities. So the moments when flecks of light and spirals flash across my eyes become memory spaces storing these fragments, and are forever flowing through recollection.

Creative Process
I began the performance component of the project during the summer school I attended in 2024. These images document my explorations in performance, as well as the processes of creating wearable sculptures, conducting fieldwork photography, and editing videos.

Iceylithe Bintong Wang was born in Jiangsu, China, during the 4.54 billion years of Earth’s existence.

Her long-term project Crystalline Layer, developed through journeys traverse the Eurasian continent, to glaciers and mountains and during her residency in Iceland, explores the flow and equilibrium within the elemental and material structures—originating from the cosmos—that compose all life forms on Earth. Through this work, she examines the intimate entanglement between organisms and environments, the vitality within matter, and perspectives of transformation, diversity, and hope. Her practice seeks to read the elusive, mesmerizing memories and stories written in the mother tongue of the Earth, connecting ancient environments with possible futures.
